The Spanish dream

Ola, I’m home!

I’ve been on my little travels to Valencia and Barcelona. I have a million photos I want to share with you all, but instead of just doing one haa-uge post, I thought I’d start off with something I know most of you will be interested. SPANISH FASHION. Well, I say fashion. It my own take of their style that I’ve recreated with pieces I bought from a Spanish charity shop in Barcelona called Humana.

I know a lot of you will read that and think 1) Who goes clothes shopping on holiday!? 2) Who goes second hand shopping on holiday! Well, the answer is, me! someone who has an addiction and in need of new clothes as they all got ruined at Benicassim (which was amazing by the way, post to come.)

This baby blue smock dress is in fact a size 22 top for the larger lady. But when I spotted it, I knew it could get away with wearing it as a floaty dress! I had many smiles whilst trotting around Barcelona in this, its pretty cute isnt it!?

This photo was taken upon my arrival back in the sunny UK, its also my favourite Spanish buys! the linen vest is ZARA! but bought for 1 euro, the checked green skirt as cute side pockets and fit comfortably, something that is a rarity with fitted skirts on my big bum! The tan sandals are as Spanish and cosmopolitan European you can get, and I love them. The tiny heel doesnt make me feel frumpy at all, but cute and dainty, just like a real Spanish lady (ha!)

Every young person, girl or boy, had a leather necklace with a pendant on, mine is of a feather as I love feathers! Las Ramblas is full of small shops that sell cute earrings in all shapes and sizes, I got myself some silver earrings in the shape of baseball caps!

This oversized khaki green vest is a shade and style that was worn heavily amongst the younger Spanish girls, most of them had a really cool, grungy look about them. It was a look much like the cosmopolitan styling that I’d been inspired by, but for now, my tee, eyelinger and ear stretcher is as hardcore as its gona get!

Spanish fashion is a wonderful mixture of tailored Mango and ZARA pieces, teamed with vintage and/or grunge looking dungarees, retro pencil skirts and dainty sandals or converse! it was a gorgeous mixture that has totally made me realise that theres so much more to fashion than the British high street, and although we do it well, I will definitely be adapting some new looks into my wardrobe!

Festival Must Haves

In 2 days I will be flying out to Alicante to catch a coach to Benicassim, Valencia, to pitch a tent up at 1:30am in the pitch black AND I CAN’T WAIT.

Once there, I will subject my ears to the beautiful sounds of Bob Dylan, Noel Gallagher, Flo, and Maverick Sabre etc etc etc. It’s going to be my first ever festival, can you believe it? 21 years on this planet and 2 hours down the road from Leeds(fest) and I’ve never partaken in any UK/local/northern festival, yet I’m jetting off to Europe to do just that!

I love camping, as a child my family had a large trailer tent (we sound like gypsy’s! Haha) that we used to take all over the place and rough it, kinda. So I’ve never feared a soggy pitch up, leaky tents, rustling sleep bags or waiting for the beans to heat on the gas, so I have no idea as to why I haven’t indulged in a sloppy British festival. However, I have no doubt in my mind that choosing the Spanish sun over any other festivals is in anyway a bad decision!

So, as a festival newbie, and making it probably more difficult for myself due to the heat, I’ve compiled a small list of beautystaples:

  • Dry shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Baby wipes
  • BB cream/tinted moisturiser
  • 30 day mascara (do it prior to festival then no mascara or eyebrow pencil is needed!)
  • Vaseline (lips, dry skin and lash/brow shaping!)

This is based on an au natural approach to festival living, I don’t wear much make up as it is – so this is ample for the hot Spanish days that are so, so close!

What would you take to a festival in the sun? Is there a difference between UK based festival staples and others?

Here’s my first draft of my everything list. I hear you, first draft? 2 days before? That is very unlike me! I’m usually more prepared than Monica Gellar.

Anything missing?

If I get dreadlocks, for everyones sake, I’ll shut the blog..

Oh it’s a beautiful day! When the sun shines everything seems so much better, doesn’t it? Despite the fact its crunch time at uni and everything is up in the air at minute, I’ve come over with a sense of relaxation, confidence and peace. Of course, this is all false, the clouds will come and I’ll realise I need to get my ass in the library! But for now, I’m just going to sun it up.

H&M is so lovely at the moment! I’ve been in there 3 times in 1 week (sad, I know) but it gets worse, I shopped, I returned, I window shopped, I window shopped, I window shopped and then the penny dropped that I should go home and forget about the things I can’t afford at the minute.

I bought, returned and now lusting over these,

Hot pink dress £29.99

Light wash pastel pink skinny stretch trousers £24.99

Chiffon crisp white shirt £29.99

They’re all lovely and such good quality for the price! I’ve always been a fan of H&M and at the minute they are making it very difficult to say no. But I somehow gathered the will power to return,  reason being:

When I look at them like this, there is no competition at all. Despite loving fashion and it being a substantial part of my life, it is soon turning around. I’m still always wanting to shop, thinking of items to put together, dressing like a mad woman, getting it wrong and then getting it right. Perving on the latest lines, collaborations, well dressed people and one day wanting to work within fashion somehow . But lately I’m having this battle of the day dreams. Before they were filled with the above, but now they are filled with travelling, sightseeing, people meeting, getting on the wrong bus, sleeping in a super cute yet hideously dirty and dangerous hostel. Obviously, all of this is while wearing my fave cotton skirt and tee! But the days of going rough, make-up less, heelless and generally without a nice clean, cute shirt or floral and flouncy vintage dress are quickly becoming desirable.

Am I having a quarter life crisis? Or have I finally realised that there’s more to life than wearing the latest fashion? Hmm. I don’t know, I think if I travelling go, I’ll either come back craving to top up my wardrobe, get a shower and have a haircut. Or I’ll come back with dreadlocks and dare I say, wearing linen shorts.

Obviously I’m joking, one of the main reasons I want to go travelling is because I want to see uni out with a bang. Also, this summer is pretty much regarded as the last one, as after this I’ll be getting 5 weeks holiday a year like everyone else. And trust me, after having around 7 months in holidays through a uni year, 5 weeks sounds like unfair hell!

Before I get my knickers in an even bigger twist, I’m going to go and enjoy the British sun while I can!

Happy Wednesday x

#week3

This week has been quite slow, it’s not Sunday yet but if my Saturday night plans are anything to go by (cooking, The Voice and doing the washing) then I can’t imagine that my Sunday day is going to bring this post to a standstill, so I figured I may as well post my week in photos today!

I’m slowly becoming a hermit, a library lover and fat girl. With my dissertation hand in date looming, a budget to live off that is ever shrinking and feeling like I have no energy to do anything once the day is through. I’ve found myself hitting the cupboards! It’s not something I want to make a habit of doing but I fear that the stress of uni is taking over! So once again, to keep me entertained, stop me from eating and to do something £££ free, I’m hitting the bloggersphere.

On a more upbeat note I have started browsing online for a graduation ball dress, I’m going to post a few faves nearer the time because no doubt I’ll need some guidance on what to get. Glam isn’t really my thing; neither is dressing like a princess. Give me sheer blacks, slits, studs, leather or ridiculous velvet dresses any day!

Looking at these photos now, I guess I cant complain. My summer festival ticket arrived, Ive spotted some gorgeous items in COW that have been added to my ‘to buy’ list and looking at my foody photos I still get a sense of achievement!

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend x

Candy Cane Stripes

Before I get going I’d like to say that I’ve left my camera in my home town and I’m relying on my poor excuse of a mobile to take photos, so that means asking people to take my photo which I can not stress how much I hate! These were taken by my less than enthusiastic boyf, bless him.

Oh my lord, I love them.

I wanted a similar Topshop pair last year that were blue stripes, but they sold out everywhere so this year I thought I wouldn’t risk it again and get a pair while the weathers totally unsuitable (reasonable?!) I’ve named these my “beni shorts” I nearly always name my clothes, doesn’t everyone? “The birthday dress” the “Christmas day pj’s” the “interview jacket” the “‘ I’m important and do need this’ handbag” “the Grimsby band tee tshirt” the “I just popped out trousers” IM NOT JOKING.

Anyway, so they’re called ‘beni shorts’ because I plan on going to Benicassim this summer, beni is a huge festival in Spain (Google it, when I talk about it I get too excited) these are going to be my festival staple!

I’ve teamed these shorts with a pink light knit ¾ sleeve jumper; it’s a funny shade of pink, it’s not quite pastel or hot; it’s almost got a neon vibe about it. Don’t cringe, neon is the devil but it seems to work, doesn’t it? With my silly head band and beautiful thrifted ruck sake Im 100% ready for SS12.
